WITHER'S RAIN: A WENDY WARD NOVEL
By Jack Passarella
Pocket/ 448 pages/ $6.99 (mmp)
ISBN: 0671024825
(January 28, 2003)

Cover Here's a case of the sequel exceeding the original. It's better written, better-paced, far slicker, and simply makes more supernatural sense than the preceding WITHER. It's all pretty standard horror stuff (ancient evil entity takes over teen girl, people die and only good witch Wendy can stop the impending doom but bad magic is more powerful than good magic...) but nicely tied up into a page-turner. Probably most importantly, this one passed the all-important College-Age-Daughter Test (WITHER didn't) which proves: (1) you don't need to read WITHER to enjoy the sequel; and (2) Protagonist Wendy Ward might have Buffy some potential. -- Paula Guran (DarkEcho 03.20.03)
